Prostate cancer or Prostate carcinoma is the second cause of death among men in many western countries;being directly related to age, it will become the first cause of death over the next 20 years. However if detected early enough, there are now several treatments which produce excellent results with acceptable side-effects in regards to quality of life.
This is why I strongly wanted this Center; a center where the patient can be administered all the necessary exams for a fast, exhaustive diagnosis in less than 48 hours; a center where all exams are performed by the same medical team with the smallest possible discomfort and inconvenience for the patient.
Also, since 2005 we have been using the High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology for treatment of certain type of prostate tumors. With this technology, cancer cells are destroyed by ablation (heating) with no surgery and under local anesthesia.  |
